تَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِي نَزَّلَ ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَ عَلَىٰ عَبۡدِهِۦ لِيَكُونَ لِلۡعَٰلَمِينَ نَذِيرًا

Tabaraka allathee nazzala alfurqana AAala AAabdihi liyakoona lilAAalameena natheeran

WORD BY WORD
تَبَارَكَtabārakaBlessed is He
ٱلَّذِيalladhīWho
نَزَّلَnazzalasent down
ٱلۡفُرۡقَانَl-fur'qānathe Criterion
عَلَىٰʿalāupon
عَبۡدِهِۦʿabdihiHis slave
لِيَكُونَliyakūnathat he may be
لِلۡعَٰلَمِينَlil'ʿālamīnato the worlds
نَذِيرًاnadhīrana warner
TRANSLATION

Blessed is He who sent down the Criterion upon His Servant that he may be to the worlds a warner

|||
1

ٱلَّذِي لَهُۥ مُلۡكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَلَمۡ يَتَّخِذۡ وَلَدٗا وَلَمۡ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٞ فِي ٱلۡمُلۡكِ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَيۡءٖ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ تَقۡدِيرٗا

Allathee lahu mulku alssamawati waalardi walam yattakhith waladan walam yakun lahu shareekun fee almulki wakhalaqa kulla shayin faqaddarahu taqdeeran

WORD BY WORD
ٱلَّذِيalladhīThe One Who
لَهُۥlahuto Him (belongs)
مُلۡكُmul'ku(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَلَمۡwalamand not
يَتَّخِذۡyattakhidhHe has taken
وَلَدٗاwaladana son
وَلَمۡwalamand not
يَكُنyakunHe has
لَّهُۥlahufor Him
شَرِيكٞsharīkuna partner
فِيin
ٱلۡمُلۡكِl-mul'kithe dominion
وَخَلَقَwakhalaqaand He (has) created
كُلَّkullaevery
شَيۡءٖshayinthing
فَقَدَّرَهُۥfaqaddarahuand determined it
تَقۡدِيرٗاtaqdīran(with) determination
TRANSLATION

He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and who has not taken a son and has not had a partner in dominion and has created each thing and determined it with [precise] determination

|||
2

وَٱتَّخَذُواْ مِن دُونِهِۦٓ ءَالِهَةٗ لَّا يَخۡلُقُونَ شَيۡـٔٗا وَهُمۡ يُخۡلَقُونَ وَلَا يَمۡلِكُونَ لِأَنفُسِهِمۡ ضَرّٗا وَلَا نَفۡعٗا وَلَا يَمۡلِكُونَ مَوۡتٗا وَلَا حَيَوٰةٗ وَلَا نُشُورٗا

Waittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan la yakhluqoona shayan wahum yukhlaqoona wala yamlikoona lianfusihim darran wala nafAAan wala yamlikoona mawtan wala hayatan wala nushooran

WORD BY WORD
وَٱتَّخَذُواْwa-ittakhadhūYet they have taken
مِنminbesides Him
دُونِهِۦٓdūnihibesides Him
ءَالِهَةٗālihatangods
لَّاnot
يَخۡلُقُونَyakhluqūnathey create
شَيۡـٔٗاshayananything
وَهُمۡwahumwhile they
يُخۡلَقُونَyukh'laqūnaare created
وَلَاwalāand not
يَمۡلِكُونَyamlikūnathey possess
لِأَنفُسِهِمۡli-anfusihimfor themselves
ضَرّٗاḍarranany harm
وَلَاwalāand not
نَفۡعٗاnafʿanany benefit
وَلَاwalāand not
يَمۡلِكُونَyamlikūnathey control
مَوۡتٗاmawtandeath
وَلَاwalāand not
حَيَوٰةٗḥayatanlife
وَلَاwalāand not
نُشُورٗاnushūranresurrection
TRANSLATION

But they have taken besides Him gods which create nothing, while they are created, and possess not for themselves any harm or benefit and possess not [power to cause] death or life or resurrection

|||
3

وَقَالَ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوٓاْ إِنۡ هَٰذَآ إِلَّآ إِفۡكٌ ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُ وَأَعَانَهُۥ عَلَيۡهِ قَوۡمٌ ءَاخَرُونَۖ فَقَدۡ جَآءُو ظُلۡمٗا وَزُورٗا

Waqala allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa ifkun iftarahu waaAAanahu AAalayhi qawmun akharoona faqad jaoo thulman wazooran

WORD BY WORD
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd say
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
كَفَرُوٓاْkafarūdisbelieve
إِنۡinNot
هَٰذَآhādhāthis
إِلَّآillā(is) but
إِفۡكٌif'kuna lie
ٱفۡتَرَىٰهُif'tarāhuhe invented it
وَأَعَانَهُۥwa-aʿānahuand helped him
عَلَيۡهِʿalayhiat it
قَوۡمٌqawmunpeople
ءَاخَرُونَۖākharūnaother
فَقَدۡfaqadBut verily
جَآءُوjāūthey (have) produced
ظُلۡمٗاẓul'manan injustice
وَزُورٗاwazūranand a lie
TRANSLATION

And those who disbelieve say, "This [Qur'an] is not except a falsehood he invented, and another people assisted him in it." But they have committed an injustice and a lie

|||
4

وَقَالُوٓاْ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ ٱكۡتَتَبَهَا فَهِيَ تُمۡلَىٰ عَلَيۡهِ بُكۡرَةٗ وَأَصِيلٗا

Waqaloo asateeru alawwaleena iktatabaha fahiya tumla AAalayhi bukratan waaseelan

WORD BY WORD
وَقَالُوٓاْwaqālūAnd they say
أَسَٰطِيرُasāṭīruTales
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former people
ٱكۡتَتَبَهَاik'tatabahāwhich he has had written
فَهِيَfahiyaand they
تُمۡلَىٰtum'lāare dictated
عَلَيۡهِʿalayhito him
بُكۡرَةٗbuk'ratanmorning
وَأَصِيلٗاwa-aṣīlanand evening
TRANSLATION

And they say, "Legends of the former peoples which he has written down, and they are dictated to him morning and afternoon

|||
5

قُلۡ أَنزَلَهُ ٱلَّذِي يَعۡلَمُ ٱلسِّرَّ فِي ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفُورٗا رَّحِيمٗا

Qul anzalahu allathee yaAAlamu alssirra fee alssamawati waalardi innahu kana ghafooran raheeman

WORD BY WORD
قُلۡqulSay
أَنزَلَهُanzalahuHas sent it down
ٱلَّذِيalladhīthe One Who
يَعۡلَمُyaʿlamuknows
ٱلسِّرَّl-sirathe secret
فِيin
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِۚwal-arḍiand the earth
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
كَانَkānais
غَفُورٗاghafūranOft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٗاraḥīmanMost Merciful
TRANSLATION

Say, [O Muhammad], "It has been revealed by He who knows [every] secret within the heavens and the earth. Indeed, He is ever Forgiving and Merciful

|||
6

وَقَالُواْ مَالِ هَٰذَا ٱلرَّسُولِ يَأۡكُلُ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَيَمۡشِي فِي ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِ لَوۡلَآ أُنزِلَ إِلَيۡهِ مَلَكٞ فَيَكُونَ مَعَهُۥ نَذِيرًا

Waqaloo mali hatha alrrasooli yakulu alttaAAama wayamshee fee alaswaqi lawla onzila ilayhi malakun fayakoona maAAahu natheeran

WORD BY WORD
وَقَالُواْwaqālūAnd they say
مَالِmāliWhy does
هَٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلرَّسُولِl-rasūliMessenger
يَأۡكُلُyakulueat
ٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāma[the] food
وَيَمۡشِيwayamshīand walk
فِيin
ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِl-aswāqithe markets
لَوۡلَآlawlāWhy not
أُنزِلَunzilais sent down
إِلَيۡهِilayhito him
مَلَكٞmalakunan Angel
فَيَكُونَfayakūnathen he be
مَعَهُۥmaʿahuwith him
نَذِيرًاnadhīrana warner
TRANSLATION

And they say, "What is this messenger that eats food and walks in the markets? Why was there not sent down to him an angel so he would be with him a warner

|||
7

أَوۡ يُلۡقَىٰٓ إِلَيۡهِ كَنزٌ أَوۡ تَكُونُ لَهُۥ جَنَّةٞ يَأۡكُلُ مِنۡهَاۚ وَقَالَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَ إِن تَتَّبِعُونَ إِلَّا رَجُلٗا مَّسۡحُورًا

Aw yulqa ilayhi kanzun aw takoonu lahu jannatun yakulu minha waqala alththalimoona in tattabiAAoona illa rajulan mashooran

أَوۡawOr
يُلۡقَىٰٓyul'qāis delivered
إِلَيۡهِilayhito him
كَنزٌkanzuna treasure
أَوۡawor
تَكُونُtakūnuis
لَهُۥlahufor him
جَنَّةٞjannatuna garden
يَأۡكُلُyakuluhe may eat
مِنۡهَاۚmin'hāfrom it
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd say
ٱلظَّـٰلِمُونَl-ẓālimūnathe wrongdoers
إِنinNot
تَتَّبِعُونَtattabiʿūnayou follow
إِلَّاillābut
رَجُلٗاrajulana man
مَّسۡحُورًاmasḥūranbewitched
TRANSLATION

Or [why is not] a treasure presented to him [from heaven], or does he [not] have a garden from which he eats?" And the wrongdoers say, "You follow not but a man affected by magic

|||
8

ٱنظُرۡ كَيۡفَ ضَرَبُواْ لَكَ ٱلۡأَمۡثَٰلَ فَضَلُّواْ فَلَا يَسۡتَطِيعُونَ سَبِيلٗا

Onthur kayfa daraboo laka alamthala fadalloo fala yastateeAAoona sabeelan

WORD BY WORD
ٱنظُرۡunẓurSee
كَيۡفَkayfahow
ضَرَبُواْḍarabūthey set forth
لَكَlakafor you
ٱلۡأَمۡثَٰلَl-amthālathe similitudes
فَضَلُّواْfaḍallūbut they have gone astray
فَلَاfalāso not
يَسۡتَطِيعُونَyastaṭīʿūnathey are able (to find)
سَبِيلٗاsabīlana way
TRANSLATION

Look how they strike for you comparisons; but they have strayed, so they cannot [find] a way

|||
9

تَبَارَكَ ٱلَّذِيٓ إِن شَآءَ جَعَلَ لَكَ خَيۡرٗا مِّن ذَٰلِكَ جَنَّـٰتٖ تَجۡرِي مِن تَحۡتِهَا ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكَ قُصُورَۢا

Tabaraka allathee in shaa jaAAala laka khayran min thalika jannatin tajree min tahtiha alanharu wayajAAal laka qusooran

WORD BY WORD
تَبَارَكَtabārakaBlessed is He
ٱلَّذِيٓalladhīWho
إِنinif
شَآءَshāaHe willed
جَعَلَjaʿala(could have) made
لَكَlakafor you
خَيۡرٗاkhayranbetter
مِّنminthan
ذَٰلِكَdhālikathat
جَنَّـٰتٖjannātingardens
تَجۡرِيtajrīflow
مِنminfrom
تَحۡتِهَاtaḥtihāunderneath it
ٱلۡأَنۡهَٰرُl-anhāruthe rivers
وَيَجۡعَلwayajʿaland He (could) make
لَّكَlakafor you
قُصُورَۢاquṣūranpalaces
TRANSLATION

Blessed is He who, if He willed, could have made for you [something] better than that - gardens beneath which rivers flow - and could make for you palaces

|||
10

بَلۡ كَذَّبُواْ بِٱلسَّاعَةِۖ وَأَعۡتَدۡنَا لِمَن كَذَّبَ بِٱلسَّاعَةِ سَعِيرًا

Bal kaththaboo bialssaAAati waaAAtadna liman kaththaba bialssaAAati saAAeeran

WORD BY WORD
بَلۡbalNay
كَذَّبُواْkadhabūthey deny
بِٱلسَّاعَةِۖbil-sāʿatithe Hour
وَأَعۡتَدۡنَاwa-aʿtadnāand We have prepared
لِمَنlimanfor (those) who
كَذَّبَkadhabadeny
بِٱلسَّاعَةِbil-sāʿatithe Hour
سَعِيرًاsaʿīrana Blazing Fire
TRANSLATION

But they have denied the Hour, and We have prepared for those who deny the Hour a Blaze

|||
11

إِذَا رَأَتۡهُم مِّن مَّكَانِۭ بَعِيدٖ سَمِعُواْ لَهَا تَغَيُّظٗا وَزَفِيرٗا

Itha raathum min makanin baAAeedin samiAAoo laha taghayyuthan wazafeeran

WORD BY WORD
إِذَاidhāWhen
رَأَتۡهُمra-athumit sees them
مِّنminfrom
مَّكَانِۭmakānina place
بَعِيدٖbaʿīdinfar
سَمِعُواْsamiʿūthey will hear
لَهَاlahāits
تَغَيُّظٗاtaghayyuẓanraging
وَزَفِيرٗاwazafīranand roaring
TRANSLATION

When the Hellfire sees them from a distant place, they will hear its fury and roaring

|||
12

وَإِذَآ أُلۡقُواْ مِنۡهَا مَكَانٗا ضَيِّقٗا مُّقَرَّنِينَ دَعَوۡاْ هُنَالِكَ ثُبُورٗا

Waitha olqoo minha makanan dayyiqan muqarraneena daAAaw hunalika thubooran

WORD BY WORD
وَإِذَآwa-idhāAnd when
أُلۡقُواْul'qūthey are thrown
مِنۡهَاmin'hāthereof
مَكَانٗاmakānan(in) a place
ضَيِّقٗاḍayyiqannarrow
مُّقَرَّنِينَmuqarranīnabound in chains
دَعَوۡاْdaʿawthey will call
هُنَالِكَhunālikathere
ثُبُورٗاthubūran(for) destruction
TRANSLATION

And when they are thrown into a narrow place therein bound in chains, they will cry out thereupon for destruction

|||
13

لَّا تَدۡعُواْ ٱلۡيَوۡمَ ثُبُورٗا وَٰحِدٗا وَٱدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا كَثِيرٗا

La tadAAoo alyawma thubooran wahidan waodAAoo thubooran katheeran

WORD BY WORD
لَّا(Do) not
تَدۡعُواْtadʿūcall
ٱلۡيَوۡمَl-yawmathis day
ثُبُورٗاthubūran(for) destruction
وَٰحِدٗاwāḥidanone
وَٱدۡعُواْwa-id'ʿūbut call
ثُبُورٗاthubūran(for) destructions
كَثِيرٗاkathīranmany
TRANSLATION

[They will be told], "Do not cry this Day for one destruction but cry for much destruction

|||
14

قُلۡ أَذَٰلِكَ خَيۡرٌ أَمۡ جَنَّةُ ٱلۡخُلۡدِ ٱلَّتِي وُعِدَ ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۚ كَانَتۡ لَهُمۡ جَزَآءٗ وَمَصِيرٗا

Qul athalika khayrun am jannatu alkhuldi allatee wuAAida almuttaqoona kanat lahum jazaan wamaseeran

WORD BY WORD
قُلۡqulSay
أَذَٰلِكَadhālikaIs that
خَيۡرٌkhayrunbetter
أَمۡamor
جَنَّةُjannatuGarden
ٱلۡخُلۡدِl-khul'di(of) Eternity
ٱلَّتِيallatīwhich
وُعِدَwuʿidais promised
ٱلۡمُتَّقُونَۚl-mutaqūna(to) the righteous
كَانَتۡkānatIt will be
لَهُمۡlahumfor them
جَزَآءٗjazāana reward
وَمَصِيرٗاwamaṣīranand destination
TRANSLATION

Say, "Is that better or the Garden of Eternity which is promised to the righteous? It will be for them a reward and destination

|||
15

لَّهُمۡ فِيهَا مَا يَشَآءُونَ خَٰلِدِينَۚ كَانَ عَلَىٰ رَبِّكَ وَعۡدٗا مَّسۡـُٔولٗا

Lahum feeha ma yashaoona khalideena kana AAala rabbika waAAdan masoolan

WORD BY WORD
لَّهُمۡlahumFor them
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مَا(is) whatever
يَشَآءُونَyashāūnathey wish
خَٰلِدِينَۚkhālidīnathey will abide forever
كَانَkānaIt is
عَلَىٰʿalāon
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
وَعۡدٗاwaʿdana promise
مَّسۡـُٔولٗاmasūlanrequested
TRANSLATION

For them therein is whatever they wish, [while] abiding eternally. It is ever upon your Lord a promise [worthy to be] requested

|||
16

وَيَوۡمَ يَحۡشُرُهُمۡ وَمَا يَعۡبُدُونَ مِن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ فَيَقُولُ ءَأَنتُمۡ أَضۡلَلۡتُمۡ عِبَادِي هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِ أَمۡ هُمۡ ضَلُّواْ ٱلسَّبِيلَ

Wayawma yahshuruhum wama yaAAbudoona min dooni Allahi fayaqoolu aantum adlaltum AAibadee haolai am hum dalloo alssabeela

WORD BY WORD
وَيَوۡمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
يَحۡشُرُهُمۡyaḥshuruhumHe will gather them
وَمَاwamāand what
يَعۡبُدُونَyaʿbudūnathey worship
مِنminbesides Allah
دُونِdūnibesides Allah
ٱللَّهِl-lahibesides Allah
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluand He will say
ءَأَنتُمۡa-antumDid you
أَضۡلَلۡتُمۡaḍlaltum[you] mislead
عِبَادِيʿibādīMy slaves
هَـٰٓؤُلَآءِhāulāithese
أَمۡamor
هُمۡhumthey
ضَلُّواْḍallūwent astray
ٱلسَّبِيلَl-sabīla(from) the way
TRANSLATION

And [mention] the Day He will gather them and that which they worship besides Allah and will say, "Did you mislead these, My servants, or did they [themselves] stray from the way

|||
17

قَالُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَكَ مَا كَانَ يَنۢبَغِي لَنَآ أَن نَّتَّخِذَ مِن دُونِكَ مِنۡ أَوۡلِيَآءَ وَلَٰكِن مَّتَّعۡتَهُمۡ وَءَابَآءَهُمۡ حَتَّىٰ نَسُواْ ٱلذِّكۡرَ وَكَانُواْ قَوۡمَۢا بُورٗا

Qaloo subhanaka ma kana yanbaghee lana an nattakhitha min doonika min awliyaa walakin mattaAAtahum waabaahum hatta nasoo alththikra wakanoo qawman booran

WORD BY WORD
قَالُواْqālūThey say
سُبۡحَٰنَكَsub'ḥānakaGlory be to You
مَاNot
كَانَkānait was proper
يَنۢبَغِيyanbaghīit was proper
لَنَآlanāfor us
أَنanthat
نَّتَّخِذَnattakhidhawe take
مِنminbesides You
دُونِكَdūnikabesides You
مِنۡminany
أَوۡلِيَآءَawliyāaprotectors
وَلَٰكِنwalākinBut
مَّتَّعۡتَهُمۡmattaʿtahumYou gave them comforts
وَءَابَآءَهُمۡwaābāahumand their forefathers
حَتَّىٰḥattāuntil
نَسُواْnasūthey forgot
ٱلذِّكۡرَl-dhik'rathe Message
وَكَانُواْwakānūand became
قَوۡمَۢاqawmana people
بُورٗاbūranruined
TRANSLATION

They will say, "Exalted are You! It was not for us to take besides You any allies. But You provided comforts for them and their fathers until they forgot the message and became a people ruined

|||
18

فَقَدۡ كَذَّبُوكُم بِمَا تَقُولُونَ فَمَا تَسۡتَطِيعُونَ صَرۡفٗا وَلَا نَصۡرٗاۚ وَمَن يَظۡلِم مِّنكُمۡ نُذِقۡهُ عَذَابٗا كَبِيرٗا

Faqad kaththabookum bima taqooloona fama tastateeAAoona sarfan wala nasran waman yathlim minkum nuthiqhu AAathaban kabeeran

WORD BY WORD
فَقَدۡfaqadSo verily
كَذَّبُوكُمkadhabūkumthey deny you
بِمَاbimāin what
تَقُولُونَtaqūlūnayou say
فَمَاfamāso not
تَسۡتَطِيعُونَtastaṭīʿūnayou are able
صَرۡفٗاṣarfan(to) avert
وَلَاwalāand not
نَصۡرٗاۚnaṣran(to) help
وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
يَظۡلِمyaẓlimdoes wrong
مِّنكُمۡminkumamong you
نُذِقۡهُnudhiq'huWe will make him taste
عَذَابٗاʿadhābana punishment
كَبِيرٗاkabīrangreat
TRANSLATION

So they will deny you, [disbelievers], in what you say, and you cannot avert [punishment] or [find] help. And whoever commits injustice among you - We will make him taste a great punishment

|||
19

وَمَآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا قَبۡلَكَ مِنَ ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَ إِلَّآ إِنَّهُمۡ لَيَأۡكُلُونَ ٱلطَّعَامَ وَيَمۡشُونَ فِي ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِۗ وَجَعَلۡنَا بَعۡضَكُمۡ لِبَعۡضٖ فِتۡنَةً أَتَصۡبِرُونَۗ وَكَانَ رَبُّكَ بَصِيرٗا

Wama arsalna qablaka mina almursaleena illa innahum layakuloona alttaAAama wayamshoona fee alaswaqi wajaAAalna baAAdakum libaAAdin fitnatan atasbiroona wakana rabbuka baseeran

وَمَآwamāAnd not
أَرۡسَلۡنَاarsalnāWe sent
قَبۡلَكَqablakabefore you
مِنَminaany
ٱلۡمُرۡسَلِينَl-mur'salīnaMessengers
إِلَّآillābut
إِنَّهُمۡinnahumindeed, they
لَيَأۡكُلُونَlayakulūna[surely] ate
ٱلطَّعَامَl-ṭaʿāmafood
وَيَمۡشُونَwayamshūnaand walked
فِيin
ٱلۡأَسۡوَاقِۗl-aswāqithe markets
وَجَعَلۡنَاwajaʿalnāAnd We have made
بَعۡضَكُمۡbaʿḍakumsome of you
لِبَعۡضٖlibaʿḍinfor others
فِتۡنَةًfit'natana trial
أَتَصۡبِرُونَۗataṣbirūnawill you have patience
وَكَانَwakānaAnd is
رَبُّكَrabbukayour Lord
بَصِيرٗاbaṣīranAll-Seer
TRANSLATION

And We did not send before you, [O Muhammad], any of the messengers except that they ate food and walked in the markets. And We have made some of you [people] as trial for others - will you have patience? And ever is your Lord, Seeing

|||
20
