TRANSLATION

Ha, Meem

|||
1

وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِ ٱلۡمُبِينِ

Waalkitabi almubeeni

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلۡكِتَٰبِwal-kitābiBy the Book
ٱلۡمُبِينِl-mubīnithe clear
TRANSLATION

By the clear Book

|||
2

إِنَّا جَعَلۡنَٰهُ قُرۡءَٰنًا عَرَبِيّٗا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَعۡقِلُونَ

Inna jaAAalnahu quranan AAarabiyyan laAAallakum taAAqiloona

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
جَعَلۡنَٰهُjaʿalnāhu(have) made it
قُرۡءَٰنًاqur'ānana Quran
عَرَبِيّٗاʿarabiyyan(in) Arabic
لَّعَلَّكُمۡlaʿallakumso that you may
تَعۡقِلُونَtaʿqilūnaunderstand
TRANSLATION

Indeed, We have made it an Arabic Qur'an that you might understand

|||
3

وَإِنَّهُۥ فِيٓ أُمِّ ٱلۡكِتَٰبِ لَدَيۡنَا لَعَلِيٌّ حَكِيمٌ

Wainnahu fee ommi alkitabi ladayna laAAaliyyun hakeemun

WORD BY WORD
وَإِنَّهُۥwa-innahuAnd indeed, it
فِيٓ(is) in
أُمِّummi(the) Mother
ٱلۡكِتَٰبِl-kitābi(of) the Book
لَدَيۡنَاladaynāwith Us
لَعَلِيٌّlaʿaliyyunsurely exalted
حَكِيمٌḥakīmunfull of wisdom
TRANSLATION

And indeed it is, in the Mother of the Book with Us, exalted and full of wisdom

|||
4

أَفَنَضۡرِبُ عَنكُمُ ٱلذِّكۡرَ صَفۡحًا أَن كُنتُمۡ قَوۡمٗا مُّسۡرِفِينَ

Afanadribu AAankumu alththikra safhan an kuntum qawman musrifeena

WORD BY WORD
أَفَنَضۡرِبُafanaḍribuThen should We take away
عَنكُمُʿankumufrom you
ٱلذِّكۡرَl-dhik'rathe Reminder
صَفۡحًاṣafḥandisregarding (you)
أَنanbecause
كُنتُمۡkuntumyou are
قَوۡمٗاqawmana people
مُّسۡرِفِينَmus'rifīnatransgressing
TRANSLATION

Then should We turn the message away, disregarding you, because you are a transgressing people

|||
5

وَكَمۡ أَرۡسَلۡنَا مِن نَّبِيّٖ فِي ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ

Wakam arsalna min nabiyyin fee alawwaleena

WORD BY WORD
وَكَمۡwakamAnd how many
أَرۡسَلۡنَاarsalnāWe sent
مِنminof
نَّبِيّٖnabiyyina Prophet
فِيamong
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former (people)
TRANSLATION

And how many a prophet We sent among the former peoples

|||
6

وَمَا يَأۡتِيهِم مِّن نَّبِيٍّ إِلَّا كَانُواْ بِهِۦ يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَ

Wama yateehim min nabiyyin illa kanoo bihi yastahzioona

WORD BY WORD
وَمَاwamāAnd not
يَأۡتِيهِمyatīhimcame to them
مِّنminany Prophet
نَّبِيٍّnabiyyinany Prophet
إِلَّاillābut
كَانُواْkānūthey used to
بِهِۦbihimock at him
يَسۡتَهۡزِءُونَyastahziūnamock at him
TRANSLATION

But there would not come to them a prophet except that they used to ridicule him

|||
7

فَأَهۡلَكۡنَآ أَشَدَّ مِنۡهُم بَطۡشٗا وَمَضَىٰ مَثَلُ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ

Faahlakna ashadda minhum batshan wamada mathalu alawwaleena

WORD BY WORD
فَأَهۡلَكۡنَآfa-ahlaknāThen We destroyed
أَشَدَّashaddastronger
مِنۡهُمmin'humthan them
بَطۡشٗاbaṭshan(in) power
وَمَضَىٰwamaḍāand has passed
مَثَلُmathalu(the) example
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَl-awalīna(of) the former (people)
TRANSLATION

And We destroyed greater than them in [striking] power, and the example of the former peoples has preceded

|||
8

وَلَئِن سَأَلۡتَهُم مَّنۡ خَلَقَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ خَلَقَهُنَّ ٱلۡعَزِيزُ ٱلۡعَلِيمُ

Walain saaltahum man khalaqa alssamawati waalarda layaqoolunna khalaqahunna alAAazeezu alAAaleemu

WORD BY WORD
وَلَئِنwala-inAnd if
سَأَلۡتَهُمsa-altahumyou ask them
مَّنۡmanWho
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَwal-arḍaand the earth
لَيَقُولُنَّlayaqūlunnaThey will surely say
خَلَقَهُنَّkhalaqahunnaCreated them
ٱلۡعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzuthe All-Mighty
ٱلۡعَلِيمُl-ʿalīmuthe All-Knower
TRANSLATION

And if you should ask them, "Who has created the heavens and the earth?" they would surely say, "They were created by the Exalted in Might, the Knowing

|||
9

ٱلَّذِي جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَهۡدٗا وَجَعَلَ لَكُمۡ فِيهَا سُبُلٗا لَّعَلَّكُمۡ تَهۡتَدُونَ

Allathee jaAAala lakumu alarda mahdan wajaAAala lakum feeha subulan laAAallakum tahtadoona

ٱلَّذِيalladhīThe One Who
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلۡأَرۡضَl-arḍathe earth
مَهۡدٗاmahdana bed
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
لَكُمۡlakumfor you
فِيهَاfīhātherein
سُبُلٗاsubulanroads
لَّعَلَّكُمۡlaʿallakumso that you may
تَهۡتَدُونَtahtadūna(be) guided
TRANSLATION

[The one] who has made for you the earth a bed and made for you upon it roads that you might be guided

|||
10

وَٱلَّذِي نَزَّلَ مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءَۢ بِقَدَرٖ فَأَنشَرۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةٗ مَّيۡتٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ تُخۡرَجُونَ

Waallathee nazzala mina alssamai maan biqadarin faansharna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika tukhrajoona

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلَّذِيwa-alladhīAnd the One Who
نَزَّلَnazzalasends down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءَۢmāanwater
بِقَدَرٖbiqadarinin (due) measure
فَأَنشَرۡنَاfa-ansharnāthen We revive
بِهِۦbihiwith it
بَلۡدَةٗbaldatana land
مَّيۡتٗاۚmaytandead
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikathus
تُخۡرَجُونَtukh'rajūnayou will be brought forth
TRANSLATION

And who sends down rain from the sky in measured amounts, and We revive thereby a dead land - thus will you be brought forth

|||
11

وَٱلَّذِي خَلَقَ ٱلۡأَزۡوَٰجَ كُلَّهَا وَجَعَلَ لَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡفُلۡكِ وَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِ مَا تَرۡكَبُونَ

Waallathee khalaqa alazwaja kullaha wajaAAala lakum mina alfulki waalanAAami ma tarkaboona

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلَّذِيwa-alladhīAnd the One Who
خَلَقَkhalaqacreated
ٱلۡأَزۡوَٰجَl-azwājathe pairs
كُلَّهَاkullahāall of them
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنَmina[of]
ٱلۡفُلۡكِl-ful'kithe ships
وَٱلۡأَنۡعَٰمِwal-anʿāmiand the cattle
مَاwhat
تَرۡكَبُونَtarkabūnayou ride
TRANSLATION

And who created the species, all of them, and has made for you of ships and animals those which you mount

|||
12

لِتَسۡتَوُۥاْ عَلَىٰ ظُهُورِهِۦ ثُمَّ تَذۡكُرُواْ نِعۡمَةَ رَبِّكُمۡ إِذَا ٱسۡتَوَيۡتُمۡ عَلَيۡهِ وَتَقُولُواْ سُبۡحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَٰذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُۥ مُقۡرِنِينَ

Litastawoo AAala thuhoorihi thumma tathkuroo niAAmata rabbikum itha istawaytum AAalayhi wataqooloo subhana allathee sakhkhara lana hatha wama kunna lahu muqrineena

WORD BY WORD
لِتَسۡتَوُۥاْlitastawūThat you may sit firmly
عَلَىٰʿalāon
ظُهُورِهِۦẓuhūrihitheir backs
ثُمَّthummathen
تَذۡكُرُواْtadhkurūremember
نِعۡمَةَniʿ'mata(the) favor
رَبِّكُمۡrabbikum(of) your Lord
إِذَاidhāwhen
ٱسۡتَوَيۡتُمۡis'tawaytumyou sit firmly
عَلَيۡهِʿalayhion them
وَتَقُولُواْwataqūlūand say
سُبۡحَٰنَsub'ḥānaGlory be (to)
ٱلَّذِيalladhīthe One Who
سَخَّرَsakhara(has) subjected
لَنَاlanāto us
هَٰذَاhādhāthis
وَمَاwamāand not
كُنَّاkunnāwe were
لَهُۥlahuof it
مُقۡرِنِينَmuq'rinīnacapable
TRANSLATION

That you may settle yourselves upon their backs and then remember the favor of your Lord when you have settled upon them and say. "Exalted is He who has subjected this to us, and we could not have [otherwise] subdued it

|||
13

وَإِنَّآ إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ

Wainna ila rabbina lamunqaliboona

WORD BY WORD
وَإِنَّآwa-innāAnd indeed, we
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّنَاrabbināour Lord
لَمُنقَلِبُونَlamunqalibūnawill surely return
TRANSLATION

And indeed we, to our Lord, will [surely] return

|||
14

وَجَعَلُواْ لَهُۥ مِنۡ عِبَادِهِۦ جُزۡءًاۚ إِنَّ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ لَكَفُورٞ مُّبِينٌ

WajaAAaloo lahu min AAibadihi juzan inna alinsana lakafoorun mubeenun

WORD BY WORD
وَجَعَلُواْwajaʿalūBut they attribute
لَهُۥlahuto Him
مِنۡminfrom
عِبَادِهِۦʿibādihiHis slaves
جُزۡءًاۚjuz'ana portion
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insānaman
لَكَفُورٞlakafūrunsurely (is) clearly ungrateful
مُّبِينٌmubīnunsurely (is) clearly ungrateful
TRANSLATION

But they have attributed to Him from His servants a portion. Indeed, man is clearly ungrateful

|||
15

أَمِ ٱتَّخَذَ مِمَّا يَخۡلُقُ بَنَاتٖ وَأَصۡفَىٰكُم بِٱلۡبَنِينَ

Ami ittakhatha mimma yakhluqu banatin waasfakum bialbaneena

WORD BY WORD
أَمِamiOr
ٱتَّخَذَittakhadhahas He taken
مِمَّاmimmāof what
يَخۡلُقُyakhluquHe has created
بَنَاتٖbanātindaughters
وَأَصۡفَىٰكُمwa-aṣfākumand He has chosen (for) you
بِٱلۡبَنِينَbil-banīnasons
TRANSLATION

Or has He taken, out of what He has created, daughters and chosen you for [having] sons

|||
16

وَإِذَا بُشِّرَ أَحَدُهُم بِمَا ضَرَبَ لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِ مَثَلٗا ظَلَّ وَجۡهُهُۥ مُسۡوَدّٗا وَهُوَ كَظِيمٌ

Waitha bushshira ahaduhum bima daraba lilrrahmani mathalan thalla wajhuhu muswaddan wahuwa katheemun

WORD BY WORD
وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
بُشِّرَbushirais given good news
أَحَدُهُمaḥaduhum(to) one of them
بِمَاbimāof what
ضَرَبَḍarabahe sets up
لِلرَّحۡمَٰنِlilrraḥmānifor the Most Gracious
مَثَلٗاmathalan(as) a likeness
ظَلَّẓallabecomes
وَجۡهُهُۥwajhuhuhis face
مُسۡوَدّٗاmus'waddandark
وَهُوَwahuwaand he
كَظِيمٌkaẓīmun(is) filled with grief
TRANSLATION

And when one of them is given good tidings of that which he attributes to the Most Merciful in comparison, his face becomes dark, and he suppresses grief

|||
17

أَوَمَن يُنَشَّؤُاْ فِي ٱلۡحِلۡيَةِ وَهُوَ فِي ٱلۡخِصَامِ غَيۡرُ مُبِينٖ

Awaman yunashshao fee alhilyati wahuwa fee alkhisami ghayru mubeenin

WORD BY WORD
أَوَمَنawamanThen (is one) who
يُنَشَّؤُاْyunasha-uis brought up
فِيin
ٱلۡحِلۡيَةِl-ḥil'yatiornaments
وَهُوَwahuwaand he
فِيin
ٱلۡخِصَامِl-khiṣāmithe dispute
غَيۡرُghayru(is) not
مُبِينٖmubīninclear
TRANSLATION

So is one brought up in ornaments while being during conflict unevident [attributed to Allah]

|||
18

وَجَعَلُواْ ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَ ٱلَّذِينَ هُمۡ عِبَٰدُ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِ إِنَٰثًاۚ أَشَهِدُواْ خَلۡقَهُمۡۚ سَتُكۡتَبُ شَهَٰدَتُهُمۡ وَيُسۡـَٔلُونَ

WajaAAaloo almalaikata allatheena hum AAibadu alrrahmani inathan ashahidoo khalqahum satuktabu shahadatuhum wayusaloona

WORD BY WORD
وَجَعَلُواْwajaʿalūAnd they made
ٱلۡمَلَـٰٓئِكَةَl-malāikatathe Angels
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnathose who
هُمۡhumthemselves
عِبَٰدُʿibādu(are) slaves
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنِl-raḥmāni(of) the Most Gracious
إِنَٰثًاۚināthanfemales
أَشَهِدُواْashahidūDid they witness
خَلۡقَهُمۡۚkhalqahumtheir creation
سَتُكۡتَبُsatuk'tabuWill be recorded
شَهَٰدَتُهُمۡshahādatuhumtheir testimony
وَيُسۡـَٔلُونَwayus'alūnaand they will be questioned
TRANSLATION

And they have made the angels, who are servants of the Most Merciful, females. Did they witness their creation? Their testimony will be recorded, and they will be questioned

|||
19

وَقَالُواْ لَوۡ شَآءَ ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُ مَا عَبَدۡنَٰهُمۗ مَّا لَهُم بِذَٰلِكَ مِنۡ عِلۡمٍۖ إِنۡ هُمۡ إِلَّا يَخۡرُصُونَ

Waqaloo law shaa alrrahmanu ma AAabadnahum ma lahum bithalika min AAilmin in hum illa yakhrusoona

WORD BY WORD
وَقَالُواْwaqālūAnd they say
لَوۡlawIf
شَآءَshāahad willed
ٱلرَّحۡمَٰنُl-raḥmānuthe Most Gracious
مَاwe would not have worshipped them
عَبَدۡنَٰهُمۗʿabadnāhumwe would not have worshipped them
مَّاNot
لَهُمlahumthey have
بِذَٰلِكَbidhālikaabout that
مِنۡminany
عِلۡمٍۖʿil'minknowledge
إِنۡinNothing
هُمۡhumthey (do)
إِلَّاillābut
يَخۡرُصُونَyakhruṣūnalie
TRANSLATION

And they said, "If the Most Merciful had willed, we would not have worshipped them." They have of that no knowledge. They are not but falsifying
