قٓۚ وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِ ٱلۡمَجِيدِ

وَٱلۡقُرۡءَانِwal-qur'āniBy the Quran
ٱلۡمَجِيدِl-majīdithe Glorious
TRANSLATION

Qaf. By the honored Qur'an

|||
1

بَلۡ عَجِبُوٓاْ أَن جَآءَهُم مُّنذِرٞ مِّنۡهُمۡ فَقَالَ ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَ هَٰذَا شَيۡءٌ عَجِيبٌ

Bal AAajiboo an jaahum munthirun minhum faqala alkafiroona hatha shayon AAajeebun

WORD BY WORD
بَلۡbalNay
عَجِبُوٓاْʿajibūthey wonder
أَنanthat
جَآءَهُمjāahumhas come to them
مُّنذِرٞmundhiruna warner
مِّنۡهُمۡmin'humfrom them
فَقَالَfaqālaSo say
ٱلۡكَٰفِرُونَl-kāfirūnathe disbelievers
هَٰذَاhādhāThis
شَيۡءٌshayon(is) a thing
عَجِيبٌʿajībunamazing
TRANSLATION

But they wonder that there has come to them a warner from among themselves, and the disbelievers say, "This is an amazing thing

|||
2

أَءِذَا مِتۡنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابٗاۖ ذَٰلِكَ رَجۡعُۢ بَعِيدٞ

Aitha mitna wakunna turaban thalika rajAAun baAAeedun

WORD BY WORD
أَءِذَاa-idhāWhat! When
مِتۡنَاmit'nāwe die
وَكُنَّاwakunnāand have become
تُرَابٗاۖturābandust
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
رَجۡعُۢrajʿun(is) a return
بَعِيدٞbaʿīdunfar
TRANSLATION

When we have died and have become dust, [we will return to life]? That is a distant return

|||
3

قَدۡ عَلِمۡنَا مَا تَنقُصُ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مِنۡهُمۡۖ وَعِندَنَا كِتَٰبٌ حَفِيظُۢ

Qad AAalimna ma tanqusu alardu minhum waAAindana kitabun hafeethun

WORD BY WORD
قَدۡqadCertainly
عَلِمۡنَاʿalim'nāWe know
مَاwhat
تَنقُصُtanquṣudiminishes
ٱلۡأَرۡضُl-arḍuthe earth
مِنۡهُمۡۖmin'humof them
وَعِندَنَاwaʿindanāand with Us
كِتَٰبٌkitābun(is) a Book
حَفِيظُۢḥafīẓunguarded
TRANSLATION

We know what the earth diminishes of them, and with Us is a retaining record

|||
4

بَلۡ كَذَّبُواْ بِٱلۡحَقِّ لَمَّا جَآءَهُمۡ فَهُمۡ فِيٓ أَمۡرٖ مَّرِيجٍ

Bal kaththaboo bialhaqqi lamma jaahum fahum fee amrin mareejin

WORD BY WORD
بَلۡbalNay
كَذَّبُواْkadhabūthey denied
بِٱلۡحَقِّbil-ḥaqithe truth
لَمَّاlammāwhen
جَآءَهُمۡjāahumit came (to) them
فَهُمۡfahumso they
فِيٓ(are) in
أَمۡرٖamrina state
مَّرِيجٍmarījinconfused
TRANSLATION

But they denied the truth when it came to them, so they are in a confused condition

|||
5

أَفَلَمۡ يَنظُرُوٓاْ إِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ فَوۡقَهُمۡ كَيۡفَ بَنَيۡنَٰهَا وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَا وَمَا لَهَا مِن فُرُوجٖ

Afalam yanthuroo ila alssamai fawqahum kayfa banaynaha wazayyannaha wama laha min furoojin

WORD BY WORD
أَفَلَمۡafalamThen do not
يَنظُرُوٓاْyanẓurūthey look
إِلَىilāat
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
فَوۡقَهُمۡfawqahumabove them
كَيۡفَkayfahow
بَنَيۡنَٰهَاbanaynāhāWe structured it
وَزَيَّنَّـٰهَاwazayyannāhāand adorned it
وَمَاwamāand not
لَهَاlahāfor it
مِنminany
فُرُوجٖfurūjinrifts
TRANSLATION

Have they not looked at the heaven above them - how We structured it and adorned it and [how] it has no rifts

|||
6

وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ مَدَدۡنَٰهَا وَأَلۡقَيۡنَا فِيهَا رَوَٰسِيَ وَأَنۢبَتۡنَا فِيهَا مِن كُلِّ زَوۡجِۭ بَهِيجٖ

Waalarda madadnaha waalqayna feeha rawasiya waanbatna feeha min kulli zawjin baheejin

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلۡأَرۡضَwal-arḍaAnd the earth
مَدَدۡنَٰهَاmadadnāhāWe have spread it out
وَأَلۡقَيۡنَاwa-alqaynāand cast
فِيهَاfīhātherein
رَوَٰسِيَrawāsiyafirmly set mountains
وَأَنۢبَتۡنَاwa-anbatnāand We made to grow
فِيهَاfīhātherein
مِنminof
كُلِّkullievery
زَوۡجِۭzawjinkind
بَهِيجٖbahījinbeautiful
TRANSLATION

And the earth - We spread it out and cast therein firmly set mountains and made grow therein [something] of every beautiful kind

|||
7

تَبۡصِرَةٗ وَذِكۡرَىٰ لِكُلِّ عَبۡدٖ مُّنِيبٖ

Tabsiratan wathikra likulli AAabdin muneebin

WORD BY WORD
تَبۡصِرَةٗtabṣiratanGiving insight
وَذِكۡرَىٰwadhik'rāand a reminder
لِكُلِّlikullifor every
عَبۡدٖʿabdinslave
مُّنِيبٖmunībinwho turns
TRANSLATION

Giving insight and a reminder for every servant who turns [to Allah]

|||
8

وَنَزَّلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلسَّمَآءِ مَآءٗ مُّبَٰرَكٗا فَأَنۢبَتۡنَا بِهِۦ جَنَّـٰتٖ وَحَبَّ ٱلۡحَصِيدِ

Wanazzalna mina alssamai maan mubarakan faanbatna bihi jannatin wahabba alhaseedi

WORD BY WORD
وَنَزَّلۡنَاwanazzalnāAnd We have sent down
مِنَminafrom
ٱلسَّمَآءِl-samāithe sky
مَآءٗmāanwater
مُّبَٰرَكٗاmubārakanblessed
فَأَنۢبَتۡنَاfa-anbatnāthen We made to grow
بِهِۦbihithereby
جَنَّـٰتٖjannātingardens
وَحَبَّwaḥabbaand grain
ٱلۡحَصِيدِl-ḥaṣīdi(for) the harvest
TRANSLATION

And We have sent down blessed rain from the sky and made grow thereby gardens and grain from the harvest

|||
9

وَٱلنَّخۡلَ بَاسِقَٰتٖ لَّهَا طَلۡعٞ نَّضِيدٞ

Waalnnakhla basiqatin laha talAAun nadeedun

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلنَّخۡلَwal-nakhlaAnd the palms trees
بَاسِقَٰتٖbāsiqātintall
لَّهَاlahāfor it
طَلۡعٞṭalʿun(are) layers
نَّضِيدٞnaḍīdunarranged
TRANSLATION

And lofty palm trees having fruit arranged in layers

|||
10

رِّزۡقٗا لِّلۡعِبَادِۖ وَأَحۡيَيۡنَا بِهِۦ بَلۡدَةٗ مَّيۡتٗاۚ كَذَٰلِكَ ٱلۡخُرُوجُ

Rizqan lilAAibadi waahyayna bihi baldatan maytan kathalika alkhurooju

WORD BY WORD
رِّزۡقٗاriz'qanA provision
لِّلۡعِبَادِۖlil'ʿibādifor the slaves
وَأَحۡيَيۡنَاwa-aḥyaynāand We give life
بِهِۦbihitherewith
بَلۡدَةٗbaldatan(to) a land
مَّيۡتٗاۚmaytandead
كَذَٰلِكَkadhālikaThus
ٱلۡخُرُوجُl-khurūju(will be) the coming forth
TRANSLATION

As provision for the servants, and We have given life thereby to a dead land. Thus is the resurrection

|||
11

كَذَّبَتۡ قَبۡلَهُمۡ قَوۡمُ نُوحٖ وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلرَّسِّ وَثَمُودُ

Kaththabat qablahum qawmu noohin waashabu alrrassi wathamoodu

WORD BY WORD
كَذَّبَتۡkadhabatDenied
قَبۡلَهُمۡqablahumbefore them
قَوۡمُqawmu(the) people
نُوحٖnūḥin(of) Nuh
وَأَصۡحَٰبُwa-aṣḥābuand (the) companions
ٱلرَّسِّl-rasi(of) Ar-Raas
وَثَمُودُwathamūduand Thamud
TRANSLATION

The people of Noah denied before them, and the companions of the well and Thamud

|||
12

وَعَادٞ وَفِرۡعَوۡنُ وَإِخۡوَٰنُ لُوطٖ

WaAAadun wafirAAawnu waikhwanu lootin

WORD BY WORD
وَعَادٞwaʿādunAnd Aad
وَفِرۡعَوۡنُwafir'ʿawnuand Firaun
وَإِخۡوَٰنُwa-ikh'wānuand (the) brothers
لُوطٖlūṭin(of) Lut
TRANSLATION

And 'Aad and Pharaoh and the brothers of Lot

|||
13

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِ وَقَوۡمُ تُبَّعٖۚ كُلّٞ كَذَّبَ ٱلرُّسُلَ فَحَقَّ وَعِيدِ

Waashabu alaykati waqawmu tubbaAAin kullun kaththaba alrrusula fahaqqa waAAeedi

WORD BY WORD
وَأَصۡحَٰبُwa-aṣḥābuAnd (the) companions
ٱلۡأَيۡكَةِl-aykati(of) the wood
وَقَوۡمُwaqawmuand (the) people
تُبَّعٖۚtubbaʿin(of) Tubba
كُلّٞkullunAll
كَذَّبَkadhabadenied
ٱلرُّسُلَl-rusulathe Messengers
فَحَقَّfaḥaqqaso was fulfilled
وَعِيدِwaʿīdiMy Threat
TRANSLATION

And the companions of the thicket and the people of Tubba'. All denied the messengers, so My threat was justly fulfilled

|||
14

أَفَعَيِينَا بِٱلۡخَلۡقِ ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚ بَلۡ هُمۡ فِي لَبۡسٖ مِّنۡ خَلۡقٖ جَدِيدٖ

AfaAAayeena bialkhalqi alawwali bal hum fee labsin min khalqin jadeedin

WORD BY WORD
أَفَعَيِينَاafaʿayīnāWere We then tired
بِٱلۡخَلۡقِbil-khalqiwith the creation
ٱلۡأَوَّلِۚl-awalithe first
بَلۡbalNay
هُمۡhumthey
فِي(are) in
لَبۡسٖlabsindoubt
مِّنۡminabout
خَلۡقٖkhalqina creation
جَدِيدٖjadīdinnew
TRANSLATION

Did We fail in the first creation? But they are in confusion over a new creation

|||
15

وَلَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَ وَنَعۡلَمُ مَا تُوَسۡوِسُ بِهِۦ نَفۡسُهُۥۖ وَنَحۡنُ أَقۡرَبُ إِلَيۡهِ مِنۡ حَبۡلِ ٱلۡوَرِيدِ

Walaqad khalaqna alinsana wanaAAlamu ma tuwaswisu bihi nafsuhu wanahnu aqrabu ilayhi min habli alwareedi

WORD BY WORD
وَلَقَدۡwalaqadAnd certainly
خَلَقۡنَاkhalaqnāWe created
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنَl-insānaman
وَنَعۡلَمُwanaʿlamuand We know
مَاwhat
تُوَسۡوِسُtuwaswisuwhispers
بِهِۦbihito him
نَفۡسُهُۥۖnafsuhuhis soul
وَنَحۡنُwanaḥnuand We
أَقۡرَبُaqrabu(are) nearer
إِلَيۡهِilayhito him
مِنۡminthan
حَبۡلِḥabli(his) jugular vein
ٱلۡوَرِيدِl-warīdi(his) jugular vein
TRANSLATION

And We have already created man and know what his soul whispers to him, and We are closer to him than [his] jugular vein

|||
16

إِذۡ يَتَلَقَّى ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّيَانِ عَنِ ٱلۡيَمِينِ وَعَنِ ٱلشِّمَالِ قَعِيدٞ

Ith yatalaqqa almutalaqqiyani AAani alyameeni waAAani alshshimali qaAAeedun

WORD BY WORD
إِذۡidhWhen
يَتَلَقَّىyatalaqqāreceive
ٱلۡمُتَلَقِّيَانِl-mutalaqiyānithe two receivers
عَنِʿanion
ٱلۡيَمِينِl-yamīnithe right
وَعَنِwaʿaniand on
ٱلشِّمَالِl-shimālithe left
قَعِيدٞqaʿīdunseated
TRANSLATION

When the two receivers receive, seated on the right and on the left

|||
17

مَّا يَلۡفِظُ مِن قَوۡلٍ إِلَّا لَدَيۡهِ رَقِيبٌ عَتِيدٞ

Ma yalfithu min qawlin illa ladayhi raqeebun AAateedun

WORD BY WORD
مَّاNot
يَلۡفِظُyalfiẓuhe utters
مِنminany
قَوۡلٍqawlinword
إِلَّاillābut
لَدَيۡهِladayhiwith him
رَقِيبٌraqībun(is) an observer
عَتِيدٞʿatīdunready
TRANSLATION

Man does not utter any word except that with him is an observer prepared [to record]

|||
18

وَجَآءَتۡ سَكۡرَةُ ٱلۡمَوۡتِ بِٱلۡحَقِّۖ ذَٰلِكَ مَا كُنتَ مِنۡهُ تَحِيدُ

Wajaat sakratu almawti bialhaqqi thalika ma kunta minhu taheedu

WORD BY WORD
وَجَآءَتۡwajāatAnd will come
سَكۡرَةُsakratu(the) stupor
ٱلۡمَوۡتِl-mawti(of) death
بِٱلۡحَقِّۖbil-ḥaqiin truth
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
مَا(is) what
كُنتَkuntayou were
مِنۡهُmin'hu[from it]
تَحِيدُtaḥīduavoiding
TRANSLATION

And the intoxication of death will bring the truth; that is what you were trying to avoid

|||
19

وَنُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِۚ ذَٰلِكَ يَوۡمُ ٱلۡوَعِيدِ

Wanufikha fee alssoori thalika yawmu alwaAAeedi

WORD BY WORD
وَنُفِخَwanufikhaAnd will be blown
فِي[in]
ٱلصُّورِۚl-ṣūrithe trumpet
ذَٰلِكَdhālikaThat
يَوۡمُyawmu(is the) Day
ٱلۡوَعِيدِl-waʿīdi(of) the Warning
TRANSLATION

And the Horn will be blown. That is the Day of [carrying out] the threat
