56 : 1

إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ

Itha waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu

إِذَاidhāWhen
وَقَعَتِwaqaʿatioccurs
ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُl-wāqiʿatuthe Event
TRANSLATION

When the Occurrence occurs

|||
56 : 2

لَيۡسَ لِوَقۡعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ

Laysa liwaqAAatiha kathibatun

لَيۡسَlaysaNot
لِوَقۡعَتِهَاliwaqʿatihāat its occurrence
كَاذِبَةٌkādhibatuna denial
TRANSLATION

There is, at its occurrence, no denial

|||
56 : 3

خَافِضَةٞ رَّافِعَةٌ

Khafidatun rafiAAatun

خَافِضَةٞkhāfiḍatunBringing down
رَّافِعَةٌrāfiʿatunraising up
TRANSLATION

It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]

|||
56 : 4

إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ رَجّٗا

Itha rujjati alardu rajjan

إِذَاidhāWhen
رُجَّتِrujjatiwill be shaken
ٱلۡأَرۡضُl-arḍuthe earth
رَجّٗاrajjan(with) a shaking
TRANSLATION

When the earth is shaken with convulsion

|||
56 : 5

وَبُسَّتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ بَسّٗا

Wabussati aljibalu bassan

وَبُسَّتِwabussatiAnd will be crumbled
ٱلۡجِبَالُl-jibāluthe mountains
بَسّٗاbassan(with awful) crumbling
TRANSLATION

And the mountains are broken down, crumbling

|||
56 : 6

فَكَانَتۡ هَبَآءٗ مُّنۢبَثّٗا

Fakanat habaan munbaththan

فَكَانَتۡfakānatSo they become
هَبَآءٗhabāandust particles
مُّنۢبَثّٗاmunbathandispersing
TRANSLATION

And become dust dispersing

|||
56 : 7

وَكُنتُمۡ أَزۡوَٰجٗا ثَلَٰثَةٗ

Wakuntum azwajan thalathatan

وَكُنتُمۡwakuntumAnd you will become
أَزۡوَٰجٗاazwājankinds
ثَلَٰثَةٗthalāthatanthree
TRANSLATION

And you become [of] three kinds

|||
56 : 8

فَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِ

Faashabu almaymanati ma ashabu almaymanati

فَأَصۡحَٰبُfa-aṣḥābuThen (the) companions
ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِl-maymanati(of) the right
مَآmāwhat
أَصۡحَٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلۡمَيۡمَنَةِl-maymanati(of) the right
TRANSLATION

Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right

|||
56 : 9

وَأَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصۡحَٰبُ ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِ

Waashabu almashamati ma ashabu almashamati

وَأَصۡحَٰبُwa-aṣḥābuAnd (the) companions
ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِl-mashamati(of) the left
مَآmāwhat
أَصۡحَٰبُaṣḥābu(are the) companions
ٱلۡمَشۡـَٔمَةِl-mashamati(of) the left
TRANSLATION

And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left

|||
56 : 10

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ

Waalssabiqoona alssabiqoona

وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَwal-sābiqūnaAnd the foremost
ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَl-sābiqūna(are) the foremost
TRANSLATION

And the forerunners, the forerunners

|||
56 : 11

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَ

Olaika almuqarraboona

أُوْلَـٰٓئِكَulāikaThose
ٱلۡمُقَرَّبُونَl-muqarabūna(are) the nearest ones
TRANSLATION

Those are the ones brought near [to Allah]

|||
56 : 12

فِي جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

Fee jannati alnnaAAeemi

فِيfīIn
جَنَّـٰتِjannātiGardens
ٱلنَّعِيمِl-naʿīmi(of) Pleasure
TRANSLATION

In the Gardens of Pleasure

|||
56 : 13

ثُلَّةٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَ

Thullatun mina alawwaleena

ثُلَّةٞthullatunA company
مِّنَminaof
ٱلۡأَوَّلِينَl-awalīnathe former (people)
TRANSLATION

A [large] company of the former peoples

|||
56 : 14

وَقَلِيلٞ مِّنَ ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَ

Waqaleelun mina alakhireena

وَقَلِيلٞwaqalīlunAnd a few
مِّنَminaof
ٱلۡأٓخِرِينَl-ākhirīnathe later (people)
TRANSLATION

And a few of the later peoples

|||
56 : 15

عَلَىٰ سُرُرٖ مَّوۡضُونَةٖ

AAala sururin mawdoonatin

عَلَىٰʿalāOn
سُرُرٖsururinthrones
مَّوۡضُونَةٖmawḍūnatindecorated
TRANSLATION

On thrones woven [with ornament]

|||
56 : 16

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيۡهَا مُتَقَٰبِلِينَ

Muttakieena AAalayha mutaqabileena

مُّتَّكِـِٔينَmuttakiīnaReclining
عَلَيۡهَاʿalayhāon them
مُتَقَٰبِلِينَmutaqābilīnafacing each other
TRANSLATION

Reclining on them, facing each other

|||
56 : 17

يَطُوفُ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وِلۡدَٰنٞ مُّخَلَّدُونَ

Yatoofu AAalayhim wildanun mukhalladoona

يَطُوفُyaṭūfuWill circulate
عَلَيۡهِمۡʿalayhimamong them
وِلۡدَٰنٞwil'dānunboys
مُّخَلَّدُونَmukhalladūnaimmortal
TRANSLATION

There will circulate among them young boys made eternal

|||
56 : 18

بِأَكۡوَابٖ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأۡسٖ مِّن مَّعِينٖ

Biakwabin waabareeqa wakasin min maAAeenin

بِأَكۡوَابٖbi-akwābinWith vessels
وَأَبَارِيقَwa-abārīqaand jugs
وَكَأۡسٖwakasinand a cup
مِّنminfrom
مَّعِينٖmaʿīnina flowing stream
TRANSLATION

With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring

|||
56 : 19

لَّا يُصَدَّعُونَ عَنۡهَا وَلَا يُنزِفُونَ

La yusaddaAAoona AAanha wala yunzifoona

لَّاlāNot
يُصَدَّعُونَyuṣaddaʿūnathey will get headache
عَنۡهَاʿanhātherefrom
وَلَاwalāand not
يُنزِفُونَyunzifūnathey will get intoxicated
TRANSLATION

No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated

|||
56 : 20

وَفَٰكِهَةٖ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ

Wafakihatin mimma yatakhayyaroona

وَفَٰكِهَةٖwafākihatinAnd fruits
مِّمَّاmimmāof what
يَتَخَيَّرُونَyatakhayyarūnathey select
TRANSLATION

And fruit of what they select

|||
