مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ

Ma alhaqqatu

مَاWhat
ٱلۡحَآقَّةُl-ḥāqatu(is) the Inevitable Reality
TRANSLATION

What is the Inevitable Reality

|||
2

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلۡحَآقَّةُ

Wama adraka ma alhaqqatu

WORD BY WORD
وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدۡرَىٰكَadrākawill make you know
مَاwhat
ٱلۡحَآقَّةُl-ḥāqatu(is) the Inevitable Reality
TRANSLATION

And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality

|||
3

كَذَّبَتۡ ثَمُودُ وَعَادُۢ بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِ

Kaththabat thamoodu waAAadun bialqariAAati

كَذَّبَتۡkadhabatDenied
ثَمُودُthamūduThamud
وَعَادُۢwaʿādunand Aad
بِٱلۡقَارِعَةِbil-qāriʿatithe Striking Calamity
TRANSLATION

Thamud and 'Aad denied the Striking Calamity

4

فَأَمَّا ثَمُودُ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِ

Faamma thamoodu faohlikoo bialttaghiyati

WORD BY WORD
فَأَمَّاfa-ammāSo as for
ثَمُودُthamūduThamud
فَأُهۡلِكُواْfa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِٱلطَّاغِيَةِbil-ṭāghiyatiby the overpowering (blast)
TRANSLATION

So as for Thamud, they were destroyed by the overpowering [blast]

|||
5

وَأَمَّا عَادٞ فَأُهۡلِكُواْ بِرِيحٖ صَرۡصَرٍ عَاتِيَةٖ

Waamma AAadun faohlikoo bireehin sarsarin AAatiyatin

WORD BY WORD
وَأَمَّاwa-ammāAnd as for
عَادٞʿādunAad
فَأُهۡلِكُواْfa-uh'likūthey were destroyed
بِرِيحٖbirīḥinby a wind
صَرۡصَرٍṣarṣarinscreaming
عَاتِيَةٖʿātiyatinviolent
TRANSLATION

And as for 'Aad, they were destroyed by a screaming, violent wind

6

سَخَّرَهَا عَلَيۡهِمۡ سَبۡعَ لَيَالٖ وَثَمَٰنِيَةَ أَيَّامٍ حُسُومٗاۖ فَتَرَى ٱلۡقَوۡمَ فِيهَا صَرۡعَىٰ كَأَنَّهُمۡ أَعۡجَازُ نَخۡلٍ خَاوِيَةٖ

Sakhkharaha AAalayhim sabAAa layalin wathamaniyata ayyamin husooman fatara alqawma feeha sarAAa kaannahum aAAjazu nakhlin khawiyatun

WORD BY WORD
سَخَّرَهَاsakharahāWhich He imposed
عَلَيۡهِمۡʿalayhimupon them
سَبۡعَsabʿa(for) seven
لَيَالٖlayālinnights
وَثَمَٰنِيَةَwathamāniyataand eight
أَيَّامٍayyāmindays
حُسُومٗاۖḥusūman(in) succession
فَتَرَىfatarāso you would see
ٱلۡقَوۡمَl-qawmathe people
فِيهَاfīhātherein
صَرۡعَىٰṣarʿāfallen
كَأَنَّهُمۡka-annahumas if they were
أَعۡجَازُaʿjāzutrunks
نَخۡلٍnakhlin(of) date-palms
خَاوِيَةٖkhāwiyatinhollow
TRANSLATION

Which Allah imposed upon them for seven nights and eight days in succession, so you would see the people therein fallen as if they were hollow trunks of palm trees

7

فَهَلۡ تَرَىٰ لَهُم مِّنۢ بَاقِيَةٖ

Fahal tara lahum min baqiyatin

WORD BY WORD
فَهَلۡfahalThen do
تَرَىٰtarāyou see
لَهُمlahumof them
مِّنۢminany
بَاقِيَةٖbāqiyatinremains
TRANSLATION

Then do you see of them any remains

|||
8

وَجَآءَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ وَمَن قَبۡلَهُۥ وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُ بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِ

Wajaa firAAawnu waman qablahu waalmutafikatu bialkhatiati

WORD BY WORD
وَجَآءَwajāaAnd came
فِرۡعَوۡنُfir'ʿawnuFiraun
وَمَنwamanand (those)
قَبۡلَهُۥqablahubefore him
وَٱلۡمُؤۡتَفِكَٰتُwal-mu'tafikātuand the overturned cities
بِٱلۡخَاطِئَةِbil-khāṭi-atiwith sin
TRANSLATION

And there came Pharaoh and those before him and the overturned cities with sin

|||
9

فَعَصَوۡاْ رَسُولَ رَبِّهِمۡ فَأَخَذَهُمۡ أَخۡذَةٗ رَّابِيَةً

FaAAasaw rasoola rabbihim faakhathahum akhthatan rabiyatan

WORD BY WORD
فَعَصَوۡاْfaʿaṣawAnd they disobeyed
رَسُولَrasūla(the) Messenger
رَبِّهِمۡrabbihim(of) their Lord
فَأَخَذَهُمۡfa-akhadhahumso He seized them
أَخۡذَةٗakhdhatan(with) a seizure
رَّابِيَةًrābiyatanexceeding
TRANSLATION

And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, so He seized them with a seizure exceeding [in severity]

|||
10

إِنَّا لَمَّا طَغَا ٱلۡمَآءُ حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡ فِي ٱلۡجَارِيَةِ

Inna lamma tagha almao hamalnakum fee aljariyati

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, We
لَمَّاlammāwhen
طَغَاṭaghāoverflowed
ٱلۡمَآءُl-māuthe water
حَمَلۡنَٰكُمۡḥamalnākumWe carried you
فِيin
ٱلۡجَارِيَةِl-jāriyatithe sailing (ship)
TRANSLATION

Indeed, when the water overflowed, We carried your ancestors in the sailing ship

|||
11

لِنَجۡعَلَهَا لَكُمۡ تَذۡكِرَةٗ وَتَعِيَهَآ أُذُنٞ وَٰعِيَةٞ

LinajAAalaha lakum tathkiratan wataAAiyaha othunun waAAiyatun

WORD BY WORD
لِنَجۡعَلَهَاlinajʿalahāThat We might make it
لَكُمۡlakumfor you
تَذۡكِرَةٗtadhkiratana reminder
وَتَعِيَهَآwataʿiyahāand would be conscious of it
أُذُنٞudhununan ear
وَٰعِيَةٞwāʿiyatunconscious
TRANSLATION

That We might make it for you a reminder and [that] a conscious ear would be conscious of it

|||
12

فَإِذَا نُفِخَ فِي ٱلصُّورِ نَفۡخَةٞ وَٰحِدَةٞ

Faitha nufikha fee alssoori nafkhatun wahidatun

WORD BY WORD
فَإِذَاfa-idhāThen when
نُفِخَnufikhais blown
فِيin
ٱلصُّورِl-ṣūrithe trumpet
نَفۡخَةٞnafkhatuna blast
وَٰحِدَةٞwāḥidatunsingle
TRANSLATION

Then when the Horn is blown with one blast

|||
13

وَحُمِلَتِ ٱلۡأَرۡضُ وَٱلۡجِبَالُ فَدُكَّتَا دَكَّةٗ وَٰحِدَةٗ

Wahumilati alardu waaljibalu fadukkata dakkatan wahidatan

WORD BY WORD
وَحُمِلَتِwaḥumilatiAnd are lifted
ٱلۡأَرۡضُl-arḍuthe earth
وَٱلۡجِبَالُwal-jibāluand the mountains
فَدُكَّتَاfadukkatāand crushed
دَكَّةٗdakkatan(with) a crushing
وَٰحِدَةٗwāḥidatansingle
TRANSLATION

And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow

|||
14

فَيَوۡمَئِذٖ وَقَعَتِ ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُ

Fayawmaithin waqaAAati alwaqiAAatu

WORD BY WORD
فَيَوۡمَئِذٖfayawma-idhinThen (on) that Day
وَقَعَتِwaqaʿatiwill occur
ٱلۡوَاقِعَةُl-wāqiʿatuthe Occurrence
TRANSLATION

Then on that Day, the Resurrection will occur

|||
15

وَٱنشَقَّتِ ٱلسَّمَآءُ فَهِيَ يَوۡمَئِذٖ وَاهِيَةٞ

Wainshaqqati alssamao fahiya yawmaithin wahiyatun

WORD BY WORD
وَٱنشَقَّتِwa-inshaqqatiAnd will split
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe heaven
فَهِيَfahiyaso it
يَوۡمَئِذٖyawma-idhin(is on) that Day
وَاهِيَةٞwāhiyatunfrail
TRANSLATION

And the heaven will split [open], for that Day it is infirm

|||
16

وَٱلۡمَلَكُ عَلَىٰٓ أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚ وَيَحۡمِلُ عَرۡشَ رَبِّكَ فَوۡقَهُمۡ يَوۡمَئِذٖ ثَمَٰنِيَةٞ

Waalmalaku AAala arjaiha wayahmilu AAarsha rabbika fawqahum yawmaithin thamaniyatun

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلۡمَلَكُwal-malakuAnd the Angels
عَلَىٰٓʿalā(will be) on
أَرۡجَآئِهَاۚarjāihāits edges
وَيَحۡمِلُwayaḥmiluand will bear
عَرۡشَʿarsha(the) Throne
رَبِّكَrabbika(of) your Lord
فَوۡقَهُمۡfawqahumabove them
يَوۡمَئِذٖyawma-idhinthat Day
ثَمَٰنِيَةٞthamāniyatuneight
TRANSLATION

And the angels are at its edges. And there will bear the Throne of your Lord above them, that Day, eight [of them]

|||
17

يَوۡمَئِذٖ تُعۡرَضُونَ لَا تَخۡفَىٰ مِنكُمۡ خَافِيَةٞ

Yawmaithin tuAAradoona la takhfa minkum khafiyatun

WORD BY WORD
يَوۡمَئِذٖyawma-idhinThat Day
تُعۡرَضُونَtuʿ'raḍūnayou will be exhibited
لَاnot
تَخۡفَىٰtakhfāwill be hidden
مِنكُمۡminkumamong you
خَافِيَةٞkhāfiyatunany secret
TRANSLATION

That Day, you will be exhibited [for judgement]; not hidden among you is anything concealed

|||
18

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ فَيَقُولُ هَآؤُمُ ٱقۡرَءُواْ كِتَٰبِيَهۡ

Faamma man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi fayaqoolu haomu iqraoo kitabiyah

WORD BY WORD
فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
مَنۡman(him) who
أُوتِيَūtiyais given
كِتَٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihiin his right hand
فَيَقُولُfayaqūluwill say
هَآؤُمُhāumuHere
ٱقۡرَءُواْiq'raūread
كِتَٰبِيَهۡkitābiyahmy record
TRANSLATION

So as for he who is given his record in his right hand, he will say, "Here, read my record

|||
19

إِنِّي ظَنَنتُ أَنِّي مُلَٰقٍ حِسَابِيَهۡ

Innee thanantu annee mulaqin hisabiyah

WORD BY WORD
إِنِّيinnīIndeed, I
ظَنَنتُẓanantuwas certain
أَنِّيannīthat I
مُلَٰقٍmulāqin(will) meet
حِسَابِيَهۡḥisābiyahmy account
TRANSLATION

Indeed, I was certain that I would be meeting my account
