إِنَّآ أَرۡسَلۡنَا نُوحًا إِلَىٰ قَوۡمِهِۦٓ أَنۡ أَنذِرۡ قَوۡمَكَ مِن قَبۡلِ أَن يَأۡتِيَهُمۡ عَذَابٌ أَلِيمٞ

Inna arsalna noohan ila qawmihi an anthir qawmaka min qabli an yatiyahum AAathabun aleemun

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّآinnāIndeed, We
أَرۡسَلۡنَاarsalnā[We] sent
نُوحًاnūḥanNuh
إِلَىٰilāto
قَوۡمِهِۦٓqawmihihis people
أَنۡanthat
أَنذِرۡandhirWarn
قَوۡمَكَqawmakayour people
مِنminfrom
قَبۡلِqablibefore
أَنan[that]
يَأۡتِيَهُمۡyatiyahumcomes to them
عَذَابٌʿadhābuna punishment
أَلِيمٞalīmunpainful
TRANSLATION

Indeed, We sent Noah to his people, [saying], "Warn your people before there comes to them a painful punishment

|||
1

قَالَ يَٰقَوۡمِ إِنِّي لَكُمۡ نَذِيرٞ مُّبِينٌ

Qala ya qawmi innee lakum natheerun mubeenun

WORD BY WORD
قَالَqālaHe said
يَٰقَوۡمِyāqawmiO my people
إِنِّيinnīIndeed, I am
لَكُمۡlakumto you
نَذِيرٞnadhīruna warner
مُّبِينٌmubīnunclear
TRANSLATION

He said, "O my people, indeed I am to you a clear warner

|||
2

أَنِ ٱعۡبُدُواْ ٱللَّهَ وَٱتَّقُوهُ وَأَطِيعُونِ

Ani oAAbudoo Allaha waittaqoohu waateeAAooni

WORD BY WORD
أَنِaniThat
ٱعۡبُدُواْuʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
وَٱتَّقُوهُwa-ittaqūhuand fear Him
وَأَطِيعُونِwa-aṭīʿūniand obey me
TRANSLATION

[Saying], 'Worship Allah, fear Him and obey me

|||
3

يَغۡفِرۡ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمۡ وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡ إِلَىٰٓ أَجَلٖ مُّسَمًّىۚ إِنَّ أَجَلَ ٱللَّهِ إِذَا جَآءَ لَا يُؤَخَّرُۚ لَوۡ كُنتُمۡ تَعۡلَمُونَ

Yaghfir lakum min thunoobikum wayuakhkhirkum ila ajalin musamman inna ajala Allahi itha jaa la yuakhkharu law kuntum taAAlamoona

WORD BY WORD
يَغۡفِرۡyaghfirHe will forgive
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنmin[of]
ذُنُوبِكُمۡdhunūbikumyour sins
وَيُؤَخِّرۡكُمۡwayu-akhir'kumand give you respite
إِلَىٰٓilāfor
أَجَلٖajalina term
مُّسَمًّىۚmusammanspecified
إِنَّinnaIndeed
أَجَلَajala(the) term
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
إِذَاidhāwhen
جَآءَjāait comes
لَاnot
يُؤَخَّرُۚyu-akharuis delayed
لَوۡlawif
كُنتُمۡkuntumyou
تَعۡلَمُونَtaʿlamūnaknow
TRANSLATION

Allah will forgive you of your sins and delay you for a specified term. Indeed, the time [set by] Allah, when it comes, will not be delayed, if you only knew

4

قَالَ رَبِّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُ قَوۡمِي لَيۡلٗا وَنَهَارٗا

Qala rabbi innee daAAawtu qawmee laylan wanaharan

WORD BY WORD
قَالَqālaHe said
رَبِّrabbiMy Lord
إِنِّيinnīIndeed, I
دَعَوۡتُdaʿawtuinvited
قَوۡمِيqawmīmy people
لَيۡلٗاlaylannight
وَنَهَارٗاwanahāranand day
TRANSLATION

He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day

|||
5

فَلَمۡ يَزِدۡهُمۡ دُعَآءِيٓ إِلَّا فِرَارٗا

Falam yazidhum duAAaee illa firaran

WORD BY WORD
فَلَمۡfalamBut not
يَزِدۡهُمۡyazid'humincreased them
دُعَآءِيٓduʿāīmy invitation
إِلَّاillāexcept
فِرَارٗاfirāran(in) flight
TRANSLATION

But my invitation increased them not except in flight

|||
6

وَإِنِّي كُلَّمَا دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ لِتَغۡفِرَ لَهُمۡ جَعَلُوٓاْ أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡ فِيٓ ءَاذَانِهِمۡ وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْ ثِيَابَهُمۡ وَأَصَرُّواْ وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْ ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗا

Wainnee kullama daAAawtuhum litaghfira lahum jaAAaloo asabiAAahum fee athanihim waistaghshaw thiyabahum waasarroo waistakbaroo istikbaran

WORD BY WORD
وَإِنِّيwa-innīAnd indeed, I
كُلَّمَاkullamāevery time
دَعَوۡتُهُمۡdaʿawtuhumI invited them
لِتَغۡفِرَlitaghfirathat You may forgive
لَهُمۡlahumthem
جَعَلُوٓاْjaʿalūthey put
أَصَٰبِعَهُمۡaṣābiʿahumtheir fingers
فِيٓin
ءَاذَانِهِمۡādhānihimtheir ears
وَٱسۡتَغۡشَوۡاْwa-is'taghshawand covered themselves
ثِيَابَهُمۡthiyābahum(with) their garments
وَأَصَرُّواْwa-aṣarrūand persisted
وَٱسۡتَكۡبَرُواْwa-is'takbarūand were arrogant
ٱسۡتِكۡبَارٗاis'tik'bāran(with) pride
TRANSLATION

And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears, covered themselves with their garments, persisted, and were arrogant with [great] arrogance

7

ثُمَّ إِنِّي دَعَوۡتُهُمۡ جِهَارٗا

Thumma innee daAAawtuhum jiharan

ثُمَّthummaThen
إِنِّيinnīindeed, I
دَعَوۡتُهُمۡdaʿawtuhuminvited them
جِهَارٗاjihāranpublicly
TRANSLATION

Then I invited them publicly

8

ثُمَّ إِنِّيٓ أَعۡلَنتُ لَهُمۡ وَأَسۡرَرۡتُ لَهُمۡ إِسۡرَارٗا

Thumma innee aAAlantu lahum waasrartu lahum israran

WORD BY WORD
ثُمَّthummaThen
إِنِّيٓinnīindeed, I
أَعۡلَنتُaʿlantuannounced
لَهُمۡlahumto them
وَأَسۡرَرۡتُwa-asrartuand I confided
لَهُمۡlahumto them
إِسۡرَارٗاis'rāransecretly
TRANSLATION

Then I announced to them and [also] confided to them secretly

|||
9

فَقُلۡتُ ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْ رَبَّكُمۡ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ غَفَّارٗا

Faqultu istaghfiroo rabbakum innahu kana ghaffaran

WORD BY WORD
فَقُلۡتُfaqul'tuThen I said
ٱسۡتَغۡفِرُواْis'taghfirūAsk forgiveness
رَبَّكُمۡrabbakum(from) your Lord
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
كَانَkānais
غَفَّارٗاghaffāranOft-Forgiving
TRANSLATION

And said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver

|||
10

يُرۡسِلِ ٱلسَّمَآءَ عَلَيۡكُم مِّدۡرَارٗا

Yursili alssamaa AAalaykum midraran

WORD BY WORD
يُرۡسِلِyur'siliHe will send down
ٱلسَّمَآءَl-samāa(rain from) the sky
عَلَيۡكُمʿalaykumupon you
مِّدۡرَارٗاmid'rāran(in) abundance
TRANSLATION

He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers

|||
11

وَيُمۡدِدۡكُم بِأَمۡوَٰلٖ وَبَنِينَ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ جَنَّـٰتٖ وَيَجۡعَل لَّكُمۡ أَنۡهَٰرٗا

Wayumdidkum biamwalin wabaneena wayajAAal lakum jannatin wayajAAal lakum anharan

WORD BY WORD
وَيُمۡدِدۡكُمwayum'did'kumAnd provide you
بِأَمۡوَٰلٖbi-amwālinwith wealth
وَبَنِينَwabanīnaand children
وَيَجۡعَلwayajʿaland make
لَّكُمۡlakumfor you
جَنَّـٰتٖjannātingardens
وَيَجۡعَلwayajʿaland make
لَّكُمۡlakumfor you
أَنۡهَٰرٗاanhāranrivers
TRANSLATION

And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers

|||
12

مَّا لَكُمۡ لَا تَرۡجُونَ لِلَّهِ وَقَارٗا

Ma lakum la tarjoona lillahi waqaran

WORD BY WORD
مَّاWhat
لَكُمۡlakum(is) for you
لَاnot
تَرۡجُونَtarjūnayou attribute
لِلَّهِlillahito Allah
وَقَارٗاwaqārangrandeur
TRANSLATION

What is [the matter] with you that you do not attribute to Allah [due] grandeur

|||
13

وَقَدۡ خَلَقَكُمۡ أَطۡوَارًا

Waqad khalaqakum atwaran

WORD BY WORD
وَقَدۡwaqadAnd indeed
خَلَقَكُمۡkhalaqakumHe created you
أَطۡوَارًاaṭwāran(in) stages
TRANSLATION

While He has created you in stages

|||
14

أَلَمۡ تَرَوۡاْ كَيۡفَ خَلَقَ ٱللَّهُ سَبۡعَ سَمَٰوَٰتٖ طِبَاقٗا

Alam taraw kayfa khalaqa Allahu sabAAa samawatin tibaqan

WORD BY WORD
أَلَمۡalamDo not
تَرَوۡاْtarawyou see
كَيۡفَkayfahow
خَلَقَkhalaqadid create
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
سَبۡعَsabʿa(the) seven
سَمَٰوَٰتٖsamāwātinheavens
طِبَاقٗاṭibāqan(in) layers
TRANSLATION

Do you not consider how Allah has created seven heavens in layers

|||
15

وَجَعَلَ ٱلۡقَمَرَ فِيهِنَّ نُورٗا وَجَعَلَ ٱلشَّمۡسَ سِرَاجٗا

WajaAAala alqamara feehinna nooran wajaAAala alshshamsa sirajan

WORD BY WORD
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaAnd made
ٱلۡقَمَرَl-qamarathe moon
فِيهِنَّfīhinnatherein
نُورٗاnūrana light
وَجَعَلَwajaʿalaand made
ٱلشَّمۡسَl-shamsathe sun
سِرَاجٗاsirājana lamp
TRANSLATION

And made the moon therein a [reflected] light and made the sun a burning lamp

|||
16

وَٱللَّهُ أَنۢبَتَكُم مِّنَ ٱلۡأَرۡضِ نَبَاتٗا

WaAllahu anbatakum mina alardi nabatan

WORD BY WORD
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
أَنۢبَتَكُمanbatakumhas caused you to grow
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلۡأَرۡضِl-arḍithe earth
نَبَاتٗاnabātan(as) a growth
TRANSLATION

And Allah has caused you to grow from the earth a [progressive] growth

|||
17

ثُمَّ يُعِيدُكُمۡ فِيهَا وَيُخۡرِجُكُمۡ إِخۡرَاجٗا

Thumma yuAAeedukum feeha wayukhrijukum ikhrajan

WORD BY WORD
ثُمَّthummaThen
يُعِيدُكُمۡyuʿīdukumHe will return you
فِيهَاfīhāinto it
وَيُخۡرِجُكُمۡwayukh'rijukumand bring you forth
إِخۡرَاجٗاikh'rājan(a new) bringing forth
TRANSLATION

Then He will return you into it and extract you [another] extraction

|||
18

وَٱللَّهُ جَعَلَ لَكُمُ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ بِسَاطٗا

WaAllahu jaAAala lakumu alarda bisatan

WORD BY WORD
وَٱللَّهُwal-lahuAnd Allah
جَعَلَjaʿalamade
لَكُمُlakumufor you
ٱلۡأَرۡضَl-arḍathe earth
بِسَاطٗاbisāṭanan expanse
TRANSLATION

And Allah has made for you the earth an expanse

|||
19

لِّتَسۡلُكُواْ مِنۡهَا سُبُلٗا فِجَاجٗا

Litaslukoo minha subulan fijajan

WORD BY WORD
لِّتَسۡلُكُواْlitaslukūThat you may go along
مِنۡهَاmin'hātherein
سُبُلٗاsubulan(in) paths
فِجَاجٗاfijājanwide
TRANSLATION

That you may follow therein roads of passage
