84 : 1

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتۡ

Itha alssamao inshaqqat

إِذَاidhāWhen
ٱلسَّمَآءُl-samāuthe sky
ٱنشَقَّتۡinshaqqatis split asunder
TRANSLATION

When the sky has split [open]

|||
84 : 2

وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

وَأَذِنَتۡwa-adhinatAnd has listened
لِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lord
وَحُقَّتۡwaḥuqqatand was obligated
TRANSLATION

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

|||
84 : 3

وَإِذَا ٱلۡأَرۡضُ مُدَّتۡ

Waitha alardu muddat

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
ٱلۡأَرۡضُl-arḍuthe earth
مُدَّتۡmuddatis spread
TRANSLATION

And when the earth has been extended

|||
84 : 4

وَأَلۡقَتۡ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتۡ

Waalqat ma feeha watakhallat

وَأَلۡقَتۡwa-alqatAnd has cast out
مَاwhat
فِيهَاfīhā(is) in it
وَتَخَلَّتۡwatakhallatand becomes empty
TRANSLATION

And has cast out that within it and relinquished [it]

84 : 5

وَأَذِنَتۡ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتۡ

Waathinat lirabbiha wahuqqat

وَأَذِنَتۡwa-adhinatAnd has listened
لِرَبِّهَاlirabbihāto its Lord
وَحُقَّتۡwaḥuqqatand was obligated
TRANSLATION

And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so]

|||
84 : 6

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدۡحٗا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ

Ya ayyuha alinsanu innaka kadihun ila rabbika kadhan famulaqeehi

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُl-insānumankind
إِنَّكَinnakaIndeed, you
كَادِحٌkādiḥun(are) laboring
إِلَىٰilāto
رَبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
كَدۡحٗاkadḥan(with) exertion
فَمُلَٰقِيهِfamulāqīhiand you (will) meet Him
TRANSLATION

O mankind, indeed you are laboring toward your Lord with [great] exertion and will meet it

|||
84 : 7

فَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ

Faama man ootiya kitabahu biyameenihi

فَأَمَّاfa-ammāThen as for
مَنۡman(him) who
أُوتِيَūtiyais given
كِتَٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
بِيَمِينِهِۦbiyamīnihiin his right (hand)
TRANSLATION

Then as for he who is given his record in his right hand

84 : 8

فَسَوۡفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابٗا يَسِيرٗا

Fasawfa yuhasabu hisaban yaseeran

فَسَوۡفَfasawfaThen soon
يُحَاسَبُyuḥāsabuhis account will be taken
حِسَابٗاḥisābanan account
يَسِيرٗاyasīraneasy
TRANSLATION

He will be judged with an easy account

|||
84 : 9

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورٗا

Wayanqalibu ila ahlihi masrooran

وَيَنقَلِبُwayanqalibuAnd he will return
إِلَىٰٓilāto
أَهۡلِهِۦahlihihis people
مَسۡرُورٗاmasrūranhappily
TRANSLATION

And return to his people in happiness

|||
84 : 10

وَأَمَّا مَنۡ أُوتِيَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهۡرِهِۦ

Waamma man ootiya kitabahu waraa thahrihi

وَأَمَّاwa-ammāBut as for
مَنۡman(him) who
أُوتِيَūtiyais given
كِتَٰبَهُۥkitābahuhis record
وَرَآءَwarāabehind
ظَهۡرِهِۦẓahrihihis back
TRANSLATION

But as for he who is given his record behind his back

|||
84 : 11

فَسَوۡفَ يَدۡعُواْ ثُبُورٗا

Fasawfa yadAAoo thubooran

فَسَوۡفَfasawfaThen soon
يَدۡعُواْyadʿūhe will call
ثُبُورٗاthubūran(for) destruction
TRANSLATION

He will cry out for destruction

|||
84 : 12

وَيَصۡلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

Wayasla saAAeeran

وَيَصۡلَىٰwayaṣlāAnd he will burn
سَعِيرًاsaʿīran(in) a Blaze
TRANSLATION

And [enter to] burn in a Blaze

|||
84 : 13

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِيٓ أَهۡلِهِۦ مَسۡرُورًا

Innahu kana fee ahlihi masrooran

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
كَانَkānahad been
فِيٓamong
أَهۡلِهِۦahlihihis people
مَسۡرُورًاmasrūranhappy
TRANSLATION

Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness

|||
84 : 14

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ

Innahu thanna an lan yahoora

إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, he
ظَنَّẓanna(had) thought
أَنanthat
لَّنlannever
يَحُورَyaḥūrahe would return
TRANSLATION

Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]

|||
84 : 15

بَلَىٰٓۚ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرٗا

Bala inna rabbahu kana bihi baseeran

بَلَىٰٓۚbalāYes
إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّهُۥrabbahuhis Lord
كَانَkānawas
بِهِۦbihiof him
بَصِيرٗاbaṣīranAll-Seer
TRANSLATION

But yes! Indeed, his Lord was ever of him, Seeing

|||
84 : 16

فَلَآ أُقۡسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ

Fala oqsimu bialshshafaqi

فَلَآfalāBut nay
أُقۡسِمُuq'simuI swear
بِٱلشَّفَقِbil-shafaqiby the twilight glow
TRANSLATION

So I swear by the twilight glow

|||
84 : 17

وَٱلَّيۡلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

Waallayli wama wasaqa

وَٱلَّيۡلِwa-al-layliAnd the night
وَمَاwamāand what
وَسَقَwasaqait envelops
TRANSLATION

And [by] the night and what it envelops

84 : 18

وَٱلۡقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ

Waalqamari itha ittasaqa

وَٱلۡقَمَرِwal-qamariAnd the moon
إِذَاidhāwhen
ٱتَّسَقَittasaqait becomes full
TRANSLATION

And [by] the moon when it becomes full

84 : 19

لَتَرۡكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٖ

Latarkabunna tabaqan AAan tabaqin

لَتَرۡكَبُنَّlatarkabunnaYou will surely embark
طَبَقًاṭabaqan(to) stage
عَنʿanfrom
طَبَقٖṭabaqinstage
TRANSLATION

[That] you will surely experience state after state

|||
84 : 20

فَمَا لَهُمۡ لَا يُؤۡمِنُونَ

Fama lahum la yuminoona

فَمَاfamāSo what
لَهُمۡlahum(is) for them
لَاnot
يُؤۡمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe
TRANSLATION

So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe
