وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ

Waalssamai waalttariqi

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the sky
وَٱلطَّارِقِwal-ṭāriqiand the night comer
TRANSLATION

By the sky and the night comer

|||
1

وَمَآ أَدۡرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ

Wama adraka ma alttariqu

WORD BY WORD
وَمَآwamāAnd what
أَدۡرَىٰكَadrākacan make you know
مَاmāwhat
ٱلطَّارِقُl-ṭāriquthe night comer (is)
TRANSLATION

And what can make you know what is the night comer

2

ٱلنَّجۡمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ

Alnnajmu alththaqibu

WORD BY WORD
ٱلنَّجۡمُal-najmu(It is) the star
ٱلثَّاقِبُl-thāqibuthe piercing
TRANSLATION

It is the piercing star

3

إِن كُلُّ نَفۡسٖ لَّمَّا عَلَيۡهَا حَافِظٞ

In kullu nafsin lamma AAalayha hafithun

WORD BY WORD
إِنinNot
كُلُّkullu(is) every
نَفۡسٖnafsinsoul
لَّمَّاlammābut
عَلَيۡهَاʿalayhāover it
حَافِظٞḥāfiẓun(is) a protector
TRANSLATION

There is no soul but that it has over it a protector

|||
4

فَلۡيَنظُرِ ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ

Falyanthuri alinsanu mimma khuliqa

WORD BY WORD
فَلۡيَنظُرِfalyanẓuriSo let see
ٱلۡإِنسَٰنُl-insānuman
مِمَّmimmafrom what
خُلِقَkhuliqahe is created
TRANSLATION

So let man observe from what he was created

5

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٖ دَافِقٖ

Khuliqa min main dafiqin

WORD BY WORD
خُلِقَkhuliqaHe is created
مِنminfrom
مَّآءٖmāina water
دَافِقٖdāfiqinejected
TRANSLATION

He was created from a fluid, ejected

6

يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بَيۡنِ ٱلصُّلۡبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ

Yakhruju min bayni alssulbi waalttaraibi

WORD BY WORD
يَخۡرُجُyakhrujuComing forth
مِنۢminfrom
بَيۡنِbaynibetween
ٱلصُّلۡبِl-ṣul'bithe backbone
وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِwal-tarāibiand the ribs
TRANSLATION

Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs

|||
7

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجۡعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٞ

Innahu AAala rajAAihi laqadirun

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, He
عَلَىٰʿalāto
رَجۡعِهِۦrajʿihireturn him
لَقَادِرٞlaqādirun(is) Able
TRANSLATION

Indeed, Allah, to return him [to life], is Able

|||
8

يَوۡمَ تُبۡلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ

Yawma tubla alssarairu

WORD BY WORD
يَوۡمَyawma(The) Day
تُبۡلَىtub'lāwill be tested
ٱلسَّرَآئِرُl-sarāiruthe secrets
TRANSLATION

The Day when secrets will be put on trial

|||
9

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٖ وَلَا نَاصِرٖ

Fama lahu min quwwatin wala nasirin

WORD BY WORD
فَمَاfamāThen not
لَهُۥlahu(is) for him
مِنminany
قُوَّةٖquwwatinpower
وَلَاwalāand not
نَاصِرٖnāṣirinany helper
TRANSLATION

Then man will have no power or any helper

|||
10

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجۡعِ

Waalssamai thati alrrajAAi

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلسَّمَآءِwal-samāiBy the sky
ذَاتِdhātiwhich
ٱلرَّجۡعِl-rajʿireturns
TRANSLATION

By the sky which returns [rain]

|||
11

وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدۡعِ

Waalardi thati alssadAAi

WORD BY WORD
وَٱلۡأَرۡضِwal-arḍiAnd the earth
ذَاتِdhātiwhich
ٱلصَّدۡعِl-ṣadʿicracks open
TRANSLATION

And [by] the earth which cracks open

|||
12

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوۡلٞ فَصۡلٞ

Innahu laqawlun faslun

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed, it
لَقَوۡلٞlaqawlun(is) surely a Word
فَصۡلٞfaṣlundecisive
TRANSLATION

Indeed, the Qur'an is a decisive statement

|||
13

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلۡهَزۡلِ

Wama huwa bialhazli

WORD BY WORD
وَمَاwamāAnd not
هُوَhuwait
بِٱلۡهَزۡلِbil-hazli(is) for amusement
TRANSLATION

And it is not amusement

|||
14

إِنَّهُمۡ يَكِيدُونَ كَيۡدٗا

Innahum yakeedoona kaydan

WORD BY WORD
إِنَّهُمۡinnahumIndeed, they
يَكِيدُونَyakīdūnaare plotting
كَيۡدٗاkaydana plot
TRANSLATION

Indeed, they are planning a plan

|||
15

وَأَكِيدُ كَيۡدٗا

Waakeedu kaydan

WORD BY WORD
وَأَكِيدُwa-akīduBut I am planning
كَيۡدٗاkaydana plan
TRANSLATION

But I am planning a plan

|||
16

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَ أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡ رُوَيۡدَۢا

Famahhili alkafireena amhilhum ruwaydan

WORD BY WORD
فَمَهِّلِfamahhiliSo give respite
ٱلۡكَٰفِرِينَl-kāfirīna(to) the disbelievers
أَمۡهِلۡهُمۡamhil'humGive respite to them
رُوَيۡدَۢاruwaydanlittle
TRANSLATION

So allow time for the disbelievers. Leave them awhile
